Home-Grown

Right here (uafwomen) in UAF's backyard!

Thoughts about their mission? Their services? Their opportunities for growth?

Well, the multicultural center recently went away so my hunch is that with a staff of one with hours noon-5, the women's center may be on shaky ground. I better check it out soon!

Maybe in general, women of today are feeling more empowered so having a women's center is not needed as much in reference to their shorter operating hours? There is no men's center on campus so perhaps the women's center is itself antiquated by just existing?

What I really like about the idea of a women's center is the opportunity for women to get together and make friends that are also women! Coming from another town, I didn't bring all my girlfriends with me - this seems like the best place to make a bunch at one time! I too want to check it out!

I think we need a men's center! Men I know need just as much "empowerment" today as women. Men are generically seen as the powerful ones socially speaking. I call a big BS on that. Women are powerful as well...
Sometimes I think because women are so "on-their-own" lately that many men are demasculated in many ways and need a confidence boost. Women, no matter how empowered, think men SHOULD atleast try and be more assertive (and many other traights) but we don't allow that. So I say the club Fairies of UAF should erect a mens club......without strippers lol
