Women's History Month

Click here (beyondchron.org) to read a critique about setting aside the month of March to acknowledge female accomplishments...

Do you agree with the author's take on things? Why/why not?

I concur. While it is right to recognize female accomplishments, the mere fact that there is a special month set aside, suggests that women are still considered a minority or sub-group within our population needing a formalized time to be celebrated.

It seems like a delicate line to walk, doesn't it? How to acknowledge a social (in this case, gender) group's considerable influence, and yet not fall prey to conventional (male?) notions of subordinate status...

There is a fine line between honoring and lip service to the accomplishment of women in history. Taking these X History months should at face value as just a reminder of accomplishments of humanity specifically ties to one group at a
time.

Women in power, to any extent, is still a struggle to different degrees all throughout the world. Even in america ( in some pursuits ) women are seen as not up to a challenge in a previously male dominated career....not having the guts to have a strong character and backbone needed. While in other places in the world women are still "nothing"....second rate humans even. Women's History month should still go strong but from an americans point of view we are just lacking that perspective that gives us any enthusiasm or fire behind the meaning.
