Naked Rebellion

Click here (AlMonitor) to read an opinion piece about a provocative form of protest being undertaken by some Muslim women against the patriarchal status quo...

Do you think that such actions are polarizing (as the author contends), or potentially liberating?

Hello, calling the concept of separation of church and state, are you there? Should religious doctrine dictate laws and individual rights? In the case of these ladies they are defiantly saying 'no'! Though it seems like one extreme is creating the opposite extreme. Cover up head to toe, well no, we'll just go topless on Facebook. I see their point but will that really sway the Islamist regimes?

The news about North Carolina proposing a state religion is an interesting concept to add to this discussion. Using this bill to protest other legislation and power of the federal government sounds similar to these rebellious Arab ladies. Although I don't think any North Carolinians have gotten naked. Yet.

Wow. This article is very compelling. Resorting to claim atheism, and being naked are definitely extreme forms of protesting....for this culture that is. But in reality it is necessary. It seems to be a calling for negotiations. Both sides must exaggerate in hopes of meeting in the middle. Aliaa el-Mahdi is a very VERY brave woman. I have great respect for her. Some may say that her unorthodox form of protest will make things worse for women, BUT if women back her up and keep with it...I believe they can make some change...or at least spark change for future generations to pick up the torch. In the future I can definitely say that I will keep checking in on what Aliaa el-Mahdi has sprung on the Islamic community next.
