Marriage, Gender, and Business

Click here (CNN) to learn about how various corporations are lining up for vs. against legal same-sex marriage...

What are some of the issues here regarding notions of gender identities and social roles? of institutional traditions vs. individual decisions?

Many institutional traditions are implemented for the bottom fiscal line. (There aren't too many companies who operate like Capra's Bedford Falls Savings and Loans anymore.) If Starbucks really thought they would lose big on this announcement, my guess is they wouldn't have stepped into the political ring. I think that most people who work for and buy from Starbucks - and most certainly the city of Seattle - is with Howard Schultz on this one.

I am by no means an advocate for same sex....well anything. But I also acknowledge that it is they're choice to show affection in private as they please. It does not hurt any one.....and being american I do think it is unconstitutional to force an "ideal of mariage" onto these individuals. That is the bottom line for me.
